Nate Robinson to Boston
Don’t overlook the impact this trade should have on the balance of power. Robinson makes the Celtics younger, quicker, more athletic off the bench and more explosive. He gives the Celtics extra punch off the bench with the ability to go for 20+ any night. The Knicks got very little except cap relief. Relief they may have next year too because I don’t see them acquiring the major stars they think they are going to.
Boston portion: A
New York portion: C

McGrady to New York, Martin to Houston
The Knicks got a high price contract with potential. If he regains his scoring punch they receive a nice rent a player. Rodriguez could be a nice piece going forward for the future. He should see significantly more minutes in Sacramento.

Houston gets first round talent Jordan Hill and a future first rounder as well as role player Jared Jeffries. They also get a scorer with Kevin Martin. If he stays healthy he could be a potent option for the Rockets.

Sacramento receives a nice expiring contract in Hughes and a solid 6h man that can do a little of everything in Carl Landry.

Sacramento: C
Houston: A
New York: C+

Thomas to Bobcats

The Bulls receive very little for Thomas. Flip Murray gives a little punch off the bench. The 1st round pick could help depending on where it falls. Law will likely see little to no action.

The Bobcats receive a solid bench big man that can have an impact in that lineup. If they don’t like him he becomes a free agent and he gives them available money.

Chicago: D
Charlotte: B-

Ratliff to Charlotte

This was decent for the Spurs because they get something for a little producing veteran that is on his last legs. He won’t have much impact on the Bobcats either.

San Antonio: B
Charlotte: D

McGuire to Kings

This is a solid move for both teams. Washington wasn’t using McGuire so getting a second rounder for him is genius for the rebuilding effort. Sacramento gets an athlete to bring off the bench.

Sacramento: B
Washington: A

Brewer to Memphis

Brewer had taken a slight step back but the Jazz still give up a young athletic guard that could have an impact on their future. Memphis gets a solid backup to Mayo but a 1st rounder for a backup is a steep price. That first rounder is the only thing keeping t his deal from being an F for Utah considering they are third in the playoff hunt.

Utah: D
Memphis: B

Meeks, Elson for Ivey, Brezec and 2nd rounder

This trade does very little for either team as far as wins and losses. It may make the rotations easier to decide. But little production will come from either of these.

Milwaukee: D
Philadelphia: D

Jamison to Cleveland

This is a great deal for Cleveland for this season. He gives the Cavs a true 2nd option they can ride for stretches with James on the bench. This wasn’t a good move for the future but in Cleveland you have to finally win one before thinking about next year. They could have achieved the same result with the Amare deal but set themselves up for a dynasty instead of a one year run. Considering they were the overall best team anyway, they should have made a bigger splash to guarantee a title. Jamison puts them closer but how much closer?

Washington continues the rebuilding and receives a number one pick. That pick won’t change the franchise but can be used to trade up. They also receive Al Thornton who could thrive as a scorer in Washington. Big Z won’t give them anything.

The Clippers gave up a lot and received just Drew Gooden in return. Gooden is solid but is he better than Thornton?

Cleveland: B+
Washington: A
Clippers: C-

Salmons to Milwaukee

Salmons gives the Bucks a solid bench scorer but very little. He isn’t a building block. Giving up on Alexander is bad just because they wasted a potential franchise changer when they selected him. Consider they passed on Brook Lopez for Alexander and it looks really bad.

Chicago can now decide if Alexander has talent enough to keep next season and Hakim Warrick will take some of Thomas’s minutes. This deal won’t help them in quality however.
Milwaukee: B
Chicago: C

Minnesota snags Darko

This deal does nothing for either team. It is almost a trade that is my worst player for yours. Maybe Darko gets minutes at some point and does a little bit for them.

Minnesota: D
New York: F

The Camby man can

Camby gives the Blazers exactly what they need. Rebounding and defense from the post. He should help them make a run to the playoffs. Getting rid of Blake gives more minutes to Miller which he should have received anyway.

The Clippers get a backup PG to Davis just in case and a potential backup three. Outlaw is better in the contract department than on the floor for them.

Portland: A
Clippers: C

Butler, Howard are headliners

Dallas gets a nice upgrade. Caron Butler gives the Mavs a better option than Howard. Haywood gives the team a rebounder and defender. Losing Gooden will hurt because he was the only scorer the Mavs had in the post. Stevenson is a defensive player that will likely only see limited minutes once the rotation issues are ironed out. The only thing I worry about from this trade is who sits with the game on the line?

Washington gets Howard who has never been the player people make him out to be. He is a solid defender who puts up some points but he plays out of control a lot. He isn’t a building block but a decent piece of the puzzle. Getting Gooden inside was nice until they moved him again. No one else was worthy in this deal.

Washington: D+
Dallas: B

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Former Central Michigan standout Chris Kaman became the seventh player from the Mid-American Conference to participate in a National Basketball Association All-Star game on Sunday.

I listened to David Stern on Mike and Mike this morning talk about the NCAA and the one year in school rule. Stern basically said it’s the NCAA’s problem. I can’t agree more. Don’t give me that the player stops going to class in the second semester. The NBA is not an educational institute. The college is. If a player stops attending class, he is no longer a student and therefore should not be playing basketball in that semester.

Better yet, the coaches that are worried about it should st

This is a perfect time for mediocre teams to improve their roster. I know there are rumors about the Cavs, Lakers, Blazers, etc picking up players like Bosh, Amare, Boozer and the like. But why wouldn’t teams like the Bulls, Jazz, Bobcats, and Clippers, to name a few, be interested in making a move for one of these guys? Bosh is better than what they are going to get in the draft and history shows they are mediocre a drafting talent anyway. If the Bobcats could add say Bosh to Jackson, Wallace a

I love Gilbert Arenas on the basketball court. He isn’t the same player since he has had all the injuries but he still can get it done. But come on. The NBA has to suspend him for the rest of the season for his gun violations. He admittedly broke a league rule and guns are not a topic to take lightly. The best thing that could happen for Gil is the Wizards void his contract. He may not get as much from someone else but he will at least get out of Washington and then he can hand pick his next tea
